I just signed a lease an hour ago. I'm not comfortable with the wording in the lease. I'm set to take possession of the apartment on Friday. Can I rescind the lease and get my money back?

Depends on your individual State laws. Some have what's called a cooling off period which allows either party to change their minds, some do not. In my State of Oklahoma there is no such thing. You might call your States Attorney Generals office and ask before you go back and try to back out. If there is no waiting period? You legally would be stuck with the entire amount due on the lease.

It's kind of like when people buy a vehicle, a lot of people think that they can come back the next day and back out of the deal, well guess what, you can't. Once you drive the vehicle off my lot, you own it.

You might want to check the laws in your state, but in Texas you would have 3 days to rescind a signed contract. Check with the state Attorney Generals office.

Most States have a 72 hour rescission law. Call immediately, send a registered letter as well and, next time, have a lawyer review the lease.

I also think you can get out of it. Look at the wording around where you signed it for something about when the lease takes effect. Maybe something in there.

It depends on the terms of the lease - check and see if there is a certain time period where you can back out

I am pretty sure you have 24 hours. If they refuse, call your local Attorney General's office.
