i'm 17 n still studying in high school.when i was a kid,i wanted to become a doctor but when i grew up,i realized that there are many other interesting jobs but my parents seriously want me to take medical course.i'm worried coz most people said that life as a doctor is so busy you hardly get enough time to spend with your family.as i'm a very carefree person i'm afraid i'll regret later.so can anyone tell me about life as a doctor(e.g.work schedule)?especially paediatrician(preferably someone with experience).recently,i did a career test n the result showed that i'm more interested in food industry area, therefore my counsellor suggested me to take food science course.can anyone who have experience taking this course or working in related area tell me what it is all about??i'm really confused right now.1 thing that i know,i really enjoy cooking n baking n one day i hope to own a restaurant or bakery, which i know my parents will never approve.

i dont really know too much about a doctor's schedule...just know that its busy.

u should really go with what u want to do as opposed to what ur parents want. as with a lot of parents (mine included) they want they offspring to choose potentially high paying, respected occupations. in many ways, its bragging rights to their friends that they have a son/daughter as a doctor or lawyer, etc. unfortunetely, things dont always work out that way. and say u did listen to what ur parents wanted and are going to medical school...that doesnt necessarily mean ur gonna pass. especially if ur heart isnt into it and it isnt what u really want to do.

i would say follow YOUR dreams and go into the food industry. they mite not like it but eventually theyll get over it. ur not adding to the problems of society, just doing what u want. and doing this on ur own and paying everything by urself (which can be tuff) will only make ur parents respect u that much more afterwards.

good luck!

It is your life however if you are interested in the food industry and your parents think you should do medical. Why not try to become a nutritionist nurse they need them? It is in the medical and food, however you are not just tied down as much as a doctor and can work part time or 3 days a week for twelve hours and have the rest of the week off. Good Luck!

You will still be working when your parents are long gone. Find something you really like and pursue it. Don't just jump though. Talk to people in that profession to get the pro's and con's. The restaurant business is currently flooded. Too many people watch the big time chefs on TV and think they can do it too. The good ones are a minority. You would really need to be special to succeed in it. If you enjoy cooking, find a Culinary Arts school and inquire as to whats involved. In the medical profession, Registered Nurses are in high demand.

Sorry to not really have experience but i really wish that you went to a school like mine. I have the opportunity to go out and BE in the position to do those kinds of things. You get to really answer the questions about what you want to do with your life. You get to have the real world experience.

I hope you can find the answers that you want. If anything go out and try to find a doctor that has the time to sit with you and talk about it :)

Well if your parents are so concerned about what they want you to be then they need to pay your bills and everything and then you can go to college they are just trying to life their life by telling you what to do they were to lazy when they were kids and was too busy drinking and making you.

well your parents have no right on telling you what you HAVE to be. its your life and you have your pick something that you enjoy or it will really suck. your parents are just trying to say whats best for you, but i hope u know that its always your life. your responsiblity. your own choices.

it is your future and your life, not your parent's

They can become a doctor if they want or if they can afford to.
