Can you ladies please explain how, and where, your measurements are taken from? Like how do you actually measure for a bra and do you pull the tape measure tight or is it done loose? What determines a womans "cup" size? Why do some women prefer a "underwire" bra versus one without underwire?

The mesurment around the rib cage is just under the breast. This is the circumfrence of the bust. The cup size is determined by the measurement around the fullest part of the breast. The difference of inches from the bust to the breast will be anywhere from 1 to 5 inches (sometimes more) 1-2 inches is a cup A. 2-3 inches is a cup B. 3-4 inches is a C and 5 inches is a D. Each additional inch over a 5 inch difference concludes a higher cup size.

Underwires help to round out the breast by gathering flesh into the cup, whereas the soft cup bra only supports flesh where it is naturally. With new design, bras can enhance the size and shape of a breast giving a desired look.

to measure a woman's bra size, wrap the tape around her just under the breasts- note the measurement- if you have an odd number like 33 or 35 you'll need to add up one digit, as bra sizes are even numbers- this is the numerical part of the bra size. next, (while wearing a bra) measure her around the bust (don't pull the tape too tight) note the measurement. The difference between the first and second measurements determines her cup size. 1 inch difference = A, 2= B, 3=C......
women who need some help in shaping the breasts usually go with under wire. it looks better in most clothes too.

Think of it this way...the bra is supposed to be holding the 'goods' up, nice and firm. If the bra is loose then there is no purpose, so I'd say measure firmly, not uncomfortably, just firmly. Cup size determined by the size of a single boob! :-D and I speak for myself when I say "after a few months/weeks old, it sucks when your bra tears and the underwire stabs your chest!" It's understood; however, that if you want more lift then you'll need underwire.

the tape measure should not bo too tight or loose. A sewing book can give you advice on taking measurements or you could have a professional bra fitting. Underwire gives you more lift.

you measure round a bra usually.
first you do under the bust, then round the fullest part.
the cup size is the difference between your underbust and your fullestpart.
underwire isn't so good for first timers, but it gives more support.
