Technically--yes. If you don't release an egg you can't get pregnant.

Although, sperm can live for as long as 5 to 7 days inside a woman's body. 5 to 7 days is the longest they have been known to live but a more typical average is 2-3 days.

Your egg lives for 12-24 hours. In the case of multiple ovulation, the 2nd egg is released within 24 hours of the 1st so you allow a total of 48 hours after ovulation that the egg(s) are alive and viable.

So, 5 to 7 days before ovulation and 2 days after ovulation, there is a possibility to get pregnant.

No. This is because the sperm cells live from 24-72 hours after ejaculation. Oddly enough, you can actually determine the sex of your child ( with some limited success ) if you know your ovulation patterns down to a tee. Male sperm are faster and stronger swimmers, but only live for 24 hours. Female sperm, though slower and weaker, live for an additional 48 hours. Thus, if trying for a boy, you would want to have sex on the either on the first day of your ovulation, or within i believe three days after. If trying for a girl, have sex a couple of days prior to ovulation.

Sperm can live in the heat of a womans womb for 72 hours. if you ovulate 1 -2 days prior to sex, there is a chance that the sperm is still active and live enough to fertilize.
