No one plans on becoming addicted. The mechanics of addiction however are well understood. You ingest a substance that makes you feel considerably better, you associate the substance with that feeling and then come to rely on that substance to provide that feeling. In certain people drugs and alcohol stimulates the same mechanisms in the brain that are associated with making you feel hungry and make you desire sex. These are very basic drives and neccesary for the survival of the species. This is why a drug addicts and alcoholics actually feel as if they would literally die if they dont drink or get high. Also there are a select few that experience the phenoma of craving. This is when an alcoholic or drug addict after ingesting a drink or drug, no longer have any control over the amount that they will drink or use. It is a horrible, often fatal condition and very difficult to treat.

the people who abuse drugs do not have enough family love and support. For all they know, their parents are even drug abusers. They are either influenced by their parents or they just want to relax outside their homes because their family is always quarreling, etc.

In most cases, people get hooked on drugs. They need drugs to stay alive, mentally. Because people do not have high self-esteems, the put them slelves down and revert to drugs.

Weak minded people who can't deal with their problems. Also, the public school system peddles drugs on boys who act like boys (ritalin). Did you know the Columbine punks were on ritalin?

drugs of abuse provides the guy a feeling of delight and contentment. some provide the guy a "temporary escape" from their issues. those are the distinctive the clarification why drugs are abused.
