I agree with Carpfish..since the introduction of messenger, people have been developing a unique cyber-shorthand which is now spilling over into real life as well. Another cause is the use of phonics in writing where children are spelling phonically (by ear). Actually what upsets me more than anything else, is the lack of pride or the trucculence with which any questions such as this are attacked. There is an excellent book that should be mandatory reading for all teachers and parents. It's called "In Defense of Elitism" by William A. Henri III. Don't be fooled by the name - it simply deals with all the processes in education and society with which we are DUMBING DOWN our children. The biggest paradox of our times is that computers have opened such wondrous vistas of information and knowledge and yet kids/people are becoming less educated and getting dumber and dumber Anyway, that's my two cent's worth.

Yes, it is appalling. But some of the people on here are just kids, not exactly at the top of their class, who have no idea about anything much. Their knowledge of grammar and spelling is so poor that a spell check would not necessarily help them.

I make spelling mistakes all the time, on here I never use spell check because I dont really care. If I am doing something important like work then I do. It's not like you cant read what I have written. However I have seen some answers and questions on here and the spelling is atrocious. My dad is a journalist and goes mad about stuff like that!

I fail to understand why people cannot use the basics of communication. These include spelling correctly, using correct grammar, and being able to form a coherent sentence.
Do these people ever expect to get jobs in the real world? Perhaps not.
Every day I see examples of miscommunications or incorrect interpretations due to such mistakes. If people would realize the power of such errors to confuse others, perhaps they wouldn't make them so often! Or, perhaps they just don't care.

There are quite young old and people with reading difficulty's.
I make an allowance for this and would not presume they are stupid because of their spelling ! I have a friend whom designs for formula 1 cars amongst other things. He is dyslectic.
I do appreciate however a lot can be misread due to grammar and punctuation.

I'm not really fed up about it, but I do find it worrying that people can go through school with this kind of spelling... It is sometimes very difficult to understand what they mean, and this won't help them find a job or help their kids with their homework or even go through every day life paperwork...

Or try "It should of course have read, are you as fed up as I"..
But, yes, I agree with you. Spelling is going down the hill these days! Sometimes its funny...like the person who just couldn't spell 'wonder'.

to a degree. It does show lack of concern, but I think this site is about substance, not just style. So long as the point is gotten across, no great harm done.
