Adoption is actually quite a lengthy process, and it's not as easy as you think (we're trying just now). The more specific you are, the more time you may have to wait to be able to adopt.

If you narrow your requirements down to Quaker children or babies, then it may be that very few are put up for adoption, however, most agencies would not be concerned if you were intending to raise the child as a Quaker. At the end of the day, for most agencies, it is the birth-mother who decides where the child is placed, so as long as she is aware of it, there's no problem. Try:

www.adoption.org
www.lsss.org/children/adoption (Lutheran Services)
www.catholiccharities.org (They do not need you to be Catholic to use their services, nor expect you to raise your child as Catholic)
www.depelchin.org

Depelchin may be your best bet, unless there is a specific Quaker adoption agency. If you specifically want to adopt a Quaker child or baby you may have to go out of state.

I talked a lot with the administrator from Catholic Charities in Houston. She was very forthcoming about the ins and outs of the whole adoption process, and helped me reassess my expectations. She didn't mind that I wasn't Catholic, and said most of the birth-mothers weren't either. One of my other friends is adopting through their agency, and is extremely happy with the way things are going.

Bear in mind that if you want to adopt a child (rather than a baby), then you have to become foster parents first, and, as they try to place the child back in their family, the first one you foster may not become available for adoption.
