Honey, you're wasting your time. 90% of people who oppose gay marriage oppose it for religious reasons. Not only that, but people on Yahoo Answers tend to have reading problems. I'm willing to bet that by the time your question is resolved, you'll have at least 5 "Because God said so" answers.

Anyway, I'm gay, but I think I understand the position of the opposition, in a nutshell. They think that a man and a woman are supposed to be together because this is the only situation that results in the propagation of the species. I find that chillingly impersonal, to be honest, but it is undeniable that the only way for babies to be born is through sexual interaction with a man and a woman.

We have both the "Right to Pursue Happiness" and the right to free association under the first amendment. Since marriage is a specific and special relationship between two people, they should have the right to freely form the type of association they want, including marriage.

Since all associations are protected, none should be granted special protection by the gvmt. It is not the gvmts job to regulate marriages. The gvmt should get out of the marriage business!

All laws that give married couples an advantage should be reworked. Social Security should be privatized so you keep your own money, and then pass it to whom you choose when your check out, income tax should be replaced with the fair or flat tax, the death tax should be killed off, ect.

Individuals need to have a will, living will, and durable power of attorney to have their wishes followed when they can no longer speak for themselves, and our desires should trump all laws that would make decisions against our wishes.

People who practice Wicca believe that marriage should last just one year, then the contract should be renewed if both parties agree. Should someone tell them that their way of life is strange, and have others force them to do what they decide is right?

Of course not. Life is a journey that we must all take to live as how we determine is best for ourselves. Our marriages are not the business of politicians to decide for us!

Get gvmt OUT of marriage!

I'm against it

Here is my reason from a scientific point of view.

Why are there men and women? If it's natural for gays to be together. Why isin't there just men or women? it would make things a lot easier...don't you think?

What if two gay people wanted a child, they have to adopt, they can't have a child the normal way. Why is it only a man and a woman can have a child together? Why aren't woman made to make a child with a another woman or a man with another man? Why can a man only get a woman pregnant? A woman can't another woman pregnant, and man can't get another man pregnant and men can't even have babies.

See how women and men fit together like a glove? How that is natures way of things?

I am in favor of Same Sex marriage. My support is based on Constitutional Rights.

However, I believe that Same Sex marriages should be discretionary. In other words, Religious leaders have the right to refuse to perform same sex marriages in churches, if that is in contradiction to their religious teachings.

But public officials, should not discriminate, and must perform same sex Civil Marriage Ceremonies. If a public official cannot perform a same sex marriage because of his/her religious beliefs, another person should be appointed to perform the ceremony, or a person may be "deputized" to perform the ceremony if no public official is available to do so.

I'm actually for it, but just for the heck of it perhaps you can find some decent/amusing/infuriating stuff (from both sides of the coin) in youtube when you search for "gay marriage"... Oh, and some are also pretty heartwarming...

Have fun! And good luck with the project.

I'm not against same-sex marriage and I don't believe the rigid religious rules.

Some people say it's becasue propogation is the purpose of marriage.
Counter: Infertile couples, couples beyone childbearing age, and those who do not want children have every right to get married, especially with the overpopulation problem we face.

Some say it would open the door for legalization of pedophilia and bestiality.
Counter: These are acts of abuse without consent or ability to consent, not a relationship between two loving people.

Everyone's favorite reason: I don't like it, it's yucky.
Counter: Gee, thanks for the input.

Once you eliminate religious beliefs, you pretty much eliminate all of the opposition.

For it. Why groups of people feel as if they have the power to control my love life and pursuit of happiness, i will NEVER understand. To each his or her own. If its true love, its a beautiful thing & if 2 men or 2 women want to express their love for eachtother by getting married, i think its wrong for the government & the church to try and control it.
