The kings of the punk genre for me are the following:

The Ramones
Sex Pistols
Stone roses
The Misfits

Then you got the pop-punkers:

Blink 182
Bad Religion
Green Day
early Fall Out boy

For me, punk rock would be stuff like The Ramones and Sex Pistols. Punk would probably be stuff like Green Day, Billy Talent and rock? Probably old stuff like Queen, Led Zeppelin...AC/DC. For today's rock scene, I'd consider stuff like Nickelback as rock. I think it's kind of hard to really draw a line today between rock and pop, as they both almost sound the same, well, not really. Personally, I don't listen to any of this stuff. Hope it helps with your question, though.

Kudos for those mentioning REAL punk bands like The Clash, Ramones, and Sex Pistols. Shame on you guys that posted bands like Fall Out Boy and Yellowcard, and yes, even Green Day. These new emo/pop-punk/post-punk bands were given said genre labels by MTV and other music industry companies in order to appeal to weak minded mall-rats that don't know what they like but still appeal to a certain image. They are NOT punk, so therefore should not be labeled as such. Green Day sold out and now wears eye-liner. If you have to take it up the **** in order to sell records, then you aren't punk. If you sold out in order to get on MTV (the most sellout or sell outs) then you are NOT punk. These pussy bands only call themselves punk in order to get 14 year old girls to buy plaid skirts and get their lip pierced. They aren't rebels, they're "pawns of fascists". - The new new genre of fakes.
