I'm trying to use the systeminfo command over the network and I get this error:

ERROR: The RPC server is unavailable

What does this mean? What's the work around?

Check and make sure the RPC service is not stopped / disabled on your PC.

Right click on My Computer, select Manage, double click Services & Applications, then double click Services. Scroll down and locate Remote Procedure Call / Remote Procedure Call (Locater) and make sure they are running.

RPC stand for Remote Procedure Call what the error mean is the service isn't running to enable it open the control panel click on Administrative Tools in the new window click services when loaded scroll down the list to Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator right click on it and click properties on the general tab under startup type it should say manual if it's says disabled change it to manual and click apply that should do it

Hi. This was a symptom of a virus making the rounds a while back. Scan for malware first.
