Thanks

Front Pads 32.99 Semi Metallic
79.99 Organic
Thats for a full set you could pick either option, dont need both

Front Rotors 73.99 a piece approx 150.00

Rear Pads 41.99 Semi
51.99 Organic Same as fronts pick one set

Rear rotors 69.99 a piece approx 140.00

360 the cheap way or about 500 the other. Theres other options you could add in, so it could wind up to that. For the most part everything was special order, I looked them up at Autozone.com

If you took it to a shop and are not friends with the mechanics chances are they found the cheapest pads/rotors they could find in stock. But no that price is not ungodly for that car.

It depends entirely on the amount of work that had to be done in your brake job. If they had to replace the rotors, that says you allowed the pads to get to metal to metal and ran it a while with strange noises, metal to metal contact when you tried to stop.

Start by looking at your bill, it should tell you exactly what was replaced. The cost would be the parts, plus the labor rate per hour times the time to do the job, plus tax on parts, and perhaps a percentage of the total bill as a shop charge.

If you have any further questions, they would best be directed to the shop foreman where you had the work done.

Go on-line and check out the price of aftermarket parts to do this job, then compare. Are you noticing the price of labor? How much do you value your free-time, and how much do you value your vehicles safety. If you want to stew about it after the fact, you will never get satisfaction. If you want to protect your wallet in the future, go shopping for the least expensive way to do the job and then add in the cost of your time to do the shopping and then compare. $800 is a lot of money, but you drive a Mercedes, and next to Porsches and Ferraris, you are going to pay a premium for owning such a vehicle. Sell the mercedes and go buy a Honda or a Lexus or Infinity. Not a whole lot cheaper for service, but enough to make a difference.

Sounds like it, but it's hard to say because German cars are always costly for parts and repair. Doing a brake job on an American car is pretty easy, but no idea how difficult a brake job on a C230 is (or whether you need special tools to do it). To give you an idea, one of the local tire outfits wanted $500.00 to do brakes and rear rotors only on my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, but I was able to get Bosch parts through a friend for a little over $200.00 and a co-worker's son did the brake job for $125.00. Does that give you a better idea?
