I am his grandmother and am looking for things that we could maybe work on together when he comes to visit me. Preferrably using readily available things around the house or not too expensive to buy. Something in the science or expeimentation category would be great also. any book suggestions would also work.

You could make cedar wood flutes. You could sell them when your finished. This is something you can do indoors. And it is easy enough for you and him to do together but complicated enough for it to be fun.

You can also google: boy crafts. I tried this and came up with a lot of info. There are some really cool crafts on these websites!

well im 13, but im not a boy. anyways, try learning what hes interested in doing. if he likes cars, put together a model. if he likes science, make a volcanoe and fill it with baking soda. then pour vinigar in it and watch it explode! there are so many things u can do when ur doing crafts. i love doing them. maybe u could do holiday things. get some green popsicle sticks and glue them together, like a mini wall. make 4 more just like it. then glue 4 of the walls together and put the last one as a bottom. now u have a basket! go out and pick some clovers to put in it (and if u find a 4-leaf, could u mail it to me? heehee). hope this helps (even a little!)!

Family Fun magazine gives great ideas. I am a very artsy craftsy person myself, and my son has grown up always doing crafts with mom. A lot of crafts in the magazine are for younger kids, but they can be adapted to fit older kids as well. They have a website, you should look it up. I'll provide their link for you. There are a LOT of good ideas for crafts. And they are inexpensive too. Of course you'll always find the more expensive things, but if you get creative you can always find cheaper substitutes or use things from around the house.

Does he like to draw? There are some fun "learn to sketch" books that you might be able to find at the half price book store. Charcoals and pencils are not expensive and you don't have to buy sketch pad paper.
