she is a very nice girl..she just isn't willing to watch my kids when i need her...i am a single mom and have no one to pick them up from her house early. i get off at 8:15 and she wants them gone by 6. she was fine with it at first, but it's putting a strain on her marriage since she can't spend time with her husband. should i use that when i tell her i'm looking for someone else?

If she isn't willing to watch the kids when you need her, then you shouldn't worry about firing her and letting her down gently. It's clear that your schedules just aren't compatible anymore, and certainly she doesn't want or need a strain on her marriage. But yes, you could say something thoughtful, like, "I know it's been difficult for you to do this, so I appreciate what you've done." Best of luck.

I think she probably knows at this point that her services aren't giving you what you need. I would probably just tell her that under the circumstances, you really, really need someone who can watch the kids until 8:15 because that is the time you get back from work and that cannot change at this time. I don't believe her excuse - she would quit altogether if that were true. Thank her for her work done and probably - if you can afford it - give her a little something extra the last time you pay her.

Tell her that you loved her work but you need someone who will look after your kids for extended hours...Always praise a person`s good points before you break the bad news. I`m sure she wants to stop anyhow if it`s putting a strain on her marriage.

What you need to do, is instead of untying her after her day with the kids. Drag her to the curb and tell her things aren't working out. Probably a good idea not to remove the gag the kids used either!!

NO just be honest with her. tell her you can not conform to the way she needs things done although she is a good babysitter you have to find someone who will work with you. When you are the sitter you take on the responsibility of those children. And if you know the schedule that is how it is. she will probably be relieved. good luck

i would sit her down and in a gently way tell her you are thankful for all her help she has provided and even though she is a wonderful sitter your needs have moved beyond what she is able to provide and you are forced to find a sitter that can meet your time requirements then tell her you will write her a reference letter and give her a little extra on her last paycheck problem solved.

It's a business arrangement. If it's not working out for you, then you have to move on. Tell her the reasons, be nice, tell her you'd love to keep her except for this issue. She's probably trying to figure out how to quit anyway.

Sure - point out that obviously the situation isn't the best for her, and there's nothing you can do to make it better except find someone else to give your kids care while you're working and leave her free to find someone else whose schedule works better for her if she wants to keep babysitting.

Just tell her you found someone else. She can't argue with that. Her marriage life is not your concern. Just tell her thanks but that you are going with another caregiver. You don't owe her an explanation. You are her employer and have decided that she is no longer acceptable for the job. Don't feel bad. It's just business.
