WALK!!! I was the the same way and 4 days after my due date I had my baby. Walking actually does work like a charm.

Labor will come when it's ready (saddly), but I have heard of swiping of the membranes working as well. I know it's probably the last thing on your mind at the moment, but having sex can bring on labor (there are hormones in seamen that can induce labor). Though I tried that and it did not work for me.
Just relax, and enjoy every moment you have left before the baby comes. Once he/she is here, you will be very busy taking care of him/her, and you'll wish you had a moment to kick back and do nothing. So do that! Take care of yourself. Maybe go see a movie, go for a walk(which can help jump start labor), and your baby will be here soon! Congratulations!

It worked for me!! I had it with my 1st. I was 39 weeks. I had it done and after I had some mild cramps. Well like 6 hours after having it done I was having contractions 5 minutes apart. Then I had my son then next morning. So it does work for some, but for other it doesn't. Just depends on your body. I REALLY hope it works for you!!! Good Luck!!

He might have suggested rupturing your membranes? (not proven to make labor start or progress any faster than otherwise, and may lead to infection or put the baby unnecessarily at risk).
Don't know about stretching the cervix, but generally, if your body didn't do it yet, it's probably not ready to be stretched yet, and you could be setting yourself up for a difficult labor.
Talk with your doctor about nipple stimulation, which releases oxytocin, the hormone that gets your uterus working in labor.

I had my membranes stripped, no luck though :(
My Dr. recommended sex, as semen contains prostaglandins. This helps to "prepare" the cervix. Also it is shown that nipple stimulation wrks, but if done 1 hour at a time, three times per day. So if you have a breast pump or have your partner help ;)

It will probably work.
Don't bring on labor yourself.
The baby is better off the longer it is inside. If you try to induce labor this soon, you will do yourself great harm. Do you really want to start labor when you are only 2cm dilated?
Tough it out, think about the baby, and gather all your strength to be as patient as possible.

This did not work for me. My midwife then had me drink a mix of castor oil and juice...it tasted horrible but it worked.

if you want to bring on labor have sex, walk a lot, and eat spicy/hot food.
