There are a couple of reasons that seem most important :-
1. English is the most geographically widespread language so its a huge enabler of smooth communication
2. For higher studies in most disciplines (except say specific culture or language studies) the literature is still primarily available only in English. Its economically, politically and intellectually the most powerful language .

To start English in the primary level is better than starting it at a later stage. The standard of English can be simple in the beginning like cartoons and stories of animals, picture presentation of familiar fruits, vegetables, birds etc.. But simple teaching of this kind at a comparatively senior level may make children bored.! Any way English can not be given up in this present world because all the scientific achievements and progress has a base in English. So swim with the flow.

English is used widely in most countries of the world and even in India it is an official language along with Hindi. Most of the education institutions would use English as a medium of education and when the child grows up and hopes to study abroad it would be mandatory to know English. It prepares a child for later. It is an asset in today's world. Let me also add that it should also be compulsory to learn the national or regional language along with English.

People learn languages best at very young ages. The old saying about young minds being sponges is true.
If you are going to live in the US it is best to speak, read and write English.

becoming literate in language underpins the ability to learn every other subject, proficiency in English (or the native language of any country) is essential, children who struggle with langauge often get left behind in other subjects as well because they read too slowly, cant understand the concepts, have difficulty with comprehension and are unable to express their thoughts and ideas in written form

We have Indians allover the world.they could have never gone there without knowing English.even within our own country,I am not ashamed to say that when we go within our country where English helps.do you want the younger generation to curtail them-self within India or without having knowledge of the language which is accepted as world universal.so ,it is necessary to teach them English too along with their mother tongue or the national language.
