Hi, I'm American but live in Italy. Well, it depends on the film. There are some really stupid Italian movies (lot of cheap sex, vulgar jokes, bad acting.....sadly I can say the same for American movies as well though), but there are some really good Italian movies, too. Good Italian films usually have a strong message and meaning to them. Italian movies don't usually have stunt-man action (cars flying from bridges, someone jumping from a 5-story building and not dying, etc....they are more realistic). A lot of my Italian friends ask me why so many American movies are filmed inside a room. I can't think of any other differences at the moment, but I'm sure there are.

Hello!
I am italian. In my opinion there are big differences...
American movies are more spectacular. An action movie has to be american, no comparison with italian.
But...nothing compare with the Italian movies when we are talkin about alberto sordi, totò, gassman.
And we have a b movie culture, that quantin tarantino appreciates (he says). Yes, it's full of sex, stupid things, but it characterise a particular gender in a particular time.

I like both of them, italian and american!!!

Bye!!!

Probably the major difference is between American and Italitan horror movies. Movies like Zombie and Suspiria really differ from Americanized horror. If you are interested look into directors like Dario Argento and Mario Bava. More gore, guts, color and better storylines.
