The malaria parasite is a protozoan (a bit like an amoeba), not a bacterium.
There is only one way to catch it and that is to get bitten by a mosquito of the genus Anopheles, which itself has been infected by malaria. The mosquito picks up the infection by biting an infected human. The malaria parasite (called Plasmodium) undergoes sexual reproduction in the mosquito and then new parasites enter an uninfected host and the malaria life cycle starts all over again.

Transmission.
The disease is transmitted from mosquito to you.
Direct contact would involve you touching the malarial person or mosquito with your hands, and having the disease spread that way. Malaria is actually pretty fragile, it can't survive outside the body.
Side note: Malaria is a plasmodium, not a bacterium.
More on what "direct contact" is below:

The mosquito transmits the disease when it bites you. It is more prevalent in the tropics because the conditions are ideal for the insect and bacteria alike to prosper but it has been known to affect people in Britain, just not very often.

The better of the two choices is "bacteria transmission" although the malaria microbe is not a bacteria; its more like an amoeba.

Neither.
1. It's not direct contact, because you have to be bitten by a mosquito.
2. It's not bacterial transmission, because it's a protozoan and not a bacterium.
I would call this "insect-vectored disease transmission."

It is spread by direct contact, by being bitten by an infected mosquito.

direct contact, being bitten by a mosquito.
And malaria is a virus, so wouldn't be transmitted by bacteria (they are diiferent)

from my understanding you MUST be bitten, this is because it is in the blood and the mosquito transmits it that way into the person's bloodstream
