I had the pleasure of a ride in a friend's Bentley the other day which among numerous other extravagant refinements boasted a very fine set of unsoiled lambswool overrugs.

My question now is where can I get a set of lambswool overrugs for my second hand 2000 plate Mondeo LX. This equally noble vehicle also boasts extravagant refinements (but just of a rather different type).

I know everyone will agree the addition of some of those rugs would just add an extra thick layer of icing and a cherry to that particular cake.

Well as I have one of those particular cars (Turbo R) quite often the rugs have been lost / spoiled along the way by the time you finally own the car.

So you toddle off to your favourite rug-shop and buy a decent quality lambswool rug or two - then cut to about an inch larger in all directions you want (should be able to get two car rugs from each one) and then have someone edge them for you.

Total cost £50-£150 depending on the quality of the rugs to begin with and how much you give Maud on the sewing machine :)

You can also then use a dylon type dye if you wish to have them smoke grey etc.

Strangely though, almost everyone who gets in the car moves the rug to one side so they "don't get it dirty" !
