Since he drove Chris Simon's head into the boards? Keep in mind that Simon has a concussion, while Hollweg got a cut on the chin, and returned to play in the same game.

(I can just imagine what Ranger's fans are calling me right now!)

Both should be suspended.

Simon for the reason we all know and Hollweg, for his boarding AND faking.

Now, now Rangers Fans, I know the hit must've hurt, but to stay on the ice for such a long period of time for a stitch on the chin, you've got to wonder.

The Hollweg hit was close, one could argue either way (personally I thought it should have been called at least a 2 minute boarding minor). Players have lost all respect for one another but Simon went way over the line whether or not Hollweg was seriously injured or not. Cant believe anyone would feel better if he had his jaw broken or a serious head injury. I think Simon given his history got off pretty lightly...this is his 6th suspension! The sad part of the whole thing is the NHL (us fans in particular) gets another round of media bashing and the hockey haters delight in watching this sort of stupidity. The players have to remember that before they do something stupid. I have played hockey for 30+ years and have had a few cheap shots but never did I attempt to injure a player with a stick. Not saying it didnt cross my mind but like nearly every player that laces 'em up I had enough respect for the sport and the opponent even if he didnt show the same to me. Simon could have (and should have) chosen to find a moment in the game to respond with a similar hit to Hollweg or drilled one of the skill guys and simply skated by the bench and tell Hollwegs teammates that he will be doing more of the same as long a Hollweg keeps running guys. Self policing happens every single game. Making the game look bad to the hockey haters is where the real damage was done and Simon needed to pay a bigger penalty (although since his deal is up at the end of the season he may find himself in the same position as McSorley did...no team will take a chance on him so his career might have ended that night).

I don't think Hollweg's hit is worthy of a suspension. Was it dirty? People can debate that forever. Things like this happen. If a call was missed it was missed. Get over it and move on. I also don't feel that the extent of Hollweg's injury and the fact that Simon got his brain shaken are really relevant to the suspension.

To the guy with no ID who said "How can a hit be clean if a concussion is the result??? " A perfectly clean, textbook body check can still result in an injury or a concussion. Remember that Scott Stevens open ice check several years ago that leveled Lindros and sidelined him with a concussion? You might find some Flyers fans that disagree but that was a clean check.

In all honesty, I was not aware of Hollweg giving Simon a concussion. The entire scenario is all too similar to Steve Moore's unpunished hit on Naslund, which also was termed to be of a clean nature.

How can a hit be clean if a concussion is the result??? How can the NHL just stand by without doing anything to seriously address that issue?

Not suspended, but he definitely should have gotten a boarding or hit from behind penalty. Everyone who says the hit was clean is wrong because 1. the hit was from behind and into the boards, and 2. Hollweg's skates left the ice surface as he was checking Simon into the boards (making it a boarding penalty).

yes, not 22 games because chris simon had no buisness doing that, I no people in the nhl's front office and they were thinking about suspended hollweg but they decided not to because they say he didnt mean to hit his face in the glass, but if anyone saw the next game rangers and my team the pens hollweg was hitting everything, personally i think 2 game suspension just because his hit wasn't that clean, and theres 13 games left if he got suspended for 2 he would never hit liek that again because he is an scrappy player and 2 game out of 13 any hockey player wants to play every game, come to me for hockey information i no everythign there is to no and wats happening in the nhl

So you're saying that everytime someone throws someone into the boards head first they should be suspended? It's defnitiely not the first time it's happened and if the NHL suspended him for doing that, it would cause a lot of controversy and they'd then be forced to suspend every single player who issues a hit like that. Besides I doubt anyone would even be saying this if Simon hadn't reacted the way he did.

Thank you!! I asked a question regarding almost the same thing and everyone who answered was so mad at me! I don't like Hollweg and I think he's a dirty player. He gets away with so much (and there are a bunch of other players who do as well). No one calls boarding anymore and it's a fault of the new NHL. Pay closer attention, refs!!!

Hollweg had a dirty hit on Simon, but he didn't get caught. And Hollweg is a punk who says things he shouldn't say.

He did hit simon cleanly but it wasnt a good hit. it was dirty clean hit i guess. i dont think simon deserved what he got. he should have been out for like 3-4 games not the rest of the season. especially cuz the guy came back and finished the rest of the game. and i do agree the other guy should have gotten like a game or 2 suspension.
