I feel like I am missing the point! Can someone explain to me why the government think that charging us more money will help the environment. How is conjestion charges or paying by the mile to drive going to benefit the ozone? Surely it would make more sense to penalize the fuel companies to force them to go green. It makes me laugh because you always hear advise about using public transport to get to work etc... yet you never see Old Tony B on the number 47 with his return ticket to Downing street?

Green charges ...They do nothing to help the environment. They are just stealth charges, that the government use to rob more money from us and pretend they are doing some good. Only an idiot would believe them. I agree that big business should lead the way, and be charged accordingly but they would only pass on the charges to us anyway. I'm sick of always being told that the public should be charged, do more for the environment, be greener when those in power have no such intention.
Things need to change. The government should stop penalizing the public, do more itself and invest more of the money they have of ours already on initiatives that actually make a difference but i won;t hold my breath. They just want more of our money so they can swan around in chauffer driven motors that most of us cannot afford voting themselves huge payrises and buying second and third homes while telling us we should stop using cars, stop buying second houses and get pensions that will not be there when we retire unlike their index linked ones and if we the lowly public must drive then we should only drive small cars with electric motors that they can tax us many ways for daring to use.

As many have said 'green is just an excuse' and that is all. When a government is tottering on the edge of bankruptcy, as all Labour governments have, then the only way to stave off this is to increase taxes.

Let us see, Increased tax on tobacco, to stop smoking.
Increased tax on fuel, to stop us using it.
Increased tax on Drink, to cure drunkenness.

The list goes on, so why do we not stop using these highly taxes luxuries and watch the panic in No11. because some of them are necessities to some people, that's why. Brown would look pretty silly if after a tax rise everyone stopped using the product wouldn't he?

So Green is just a stance and means nothing.

the carbon emmissions argument is total unproven theory and can be equated to the "emperors new clothes" because if you disagree then you are in the pay of the oil companies.
Politicians believe scientists who are in turn funded by politicians who then believe scientists and so on and on....
Scientists that do not propogate this belief are not funded...we need more evidence than theory that CO2 and human contribution to this. If it is that bad then lets not tax but ration all air car and rail travel....but please do not treat the people as idiots.

The answer to your question is simple Polititians know that tax cannot improve the global warmth issue they are just using it to make an excuse to dip into your purse again.
And lets face it polititians are far to rich to be hurt by any new taxes or there might be them certain exemptions for members of the house.

it's all a big con, just another way to fleece poor old joe bloggs, they dodge the real issues and come up with sneaky little schemes to fleece us and have little impact on the real environmental issues.
