It's not just pregnancy that causes stretchmarks. Women can develop stretchmarks from weight gain, from growth spurts during puberty and also if she gains sufficient muscle mass. In fact the majority of women have some stretchmarks believe it or not.
Women are also more likely to suffer from stretchmarks than men, because their connective tissues are much weaker and prone to damage. Stretchmarks are essentially scar tissue that has formed from small tears in the dermis due to rapid tissue expansion because of growth spurts, weight gain or pregnancy.
Hope this explains everything : )

Stretch marks are exactly what they sound like, marks you get on the skin (or more accurately 'scars') from the skin ~stretching~ too far or too fast.
You do not NOT have to be overweight, pregnant, or female to get stretch marks. Very often children and teens (female and male) will get stretch marks when they go through a particularly fast growth spurt. These usually occur on the hips, thighs, and stomach. Girls often get stretch marks on the breasts when they go through puberty.
A person is more likely to get stretch marks if it runs in their family. I've had them from growth and from earlier weight issues, but I've not gotten any from pregnancy. Over time they fade, and nearly disappear. (often the case with people who got them early from growth issues.)
Hope that helps.

I've known people who get stretch marks on their sides and stomach and have never had a baby. If she is dark complected, marks are going to show more than fairer skin. The stretch marks happen if someone gains or loses weight really fast. Doesn't have to be bc of pregnancy.

Any woman or man can get stretch marks it is to do with stretching of the skins elastin too far not pregnancy. There are plenty of pregnant women who never get as much as a line and there are women and men never been pregnant or over weight and still get them. Body builders get them on there upper arms and teenage girls get them from developing quickly taking a spurt in high and having them on hips and thighs.

you don't have to be pregnant to get them unless my husband is also lying to me! haha Anyone can get them. I have them on my stomach but i am pregnant. I also got them on my inner thigh though...so that is just due to the weight gain i have gotten from pregnancy. Anyone that gains a significant amount of weight, especially over a short period of time vs. a long period of time can get them. Its just a common issue that everyone can face! man or women...pregnant or not!

Men also have stretchmarks.
It is common phenomenon with people whose skin has stretched. Nothing more.
