Even if they were healthy, they couldn't win anything this year. The one-man show of Kobe Bryant can't win it on his own.

For most of the past decade, Sacramento and Dallas
played a similar high-offense style, but could never tighten
up on defense enough to win that important match-up to
propel them to the NBA finals. In recent years, Sacramento traded away all its talent (Peja, Christie, Webber, Vlade),
while the Mavericks got a deeper, more confident
roster.

Last year, Dwyane Wade single-handedly led a miraculous
comeback victory for the Miami Heat. Dallas self-destructed,
while having to face an amzing talent in Dwyane Wade.

The Spurs...
got a championship in '99, then the Lakers dynasty took 3,
then the Spurs got another one. The Pistons got one, and then the Spurs got another one. As stated earlier, Wade
pulled off a miracle last year. What does all this mean?
It means the Spurs have been the most dominant
powerhouse around since '99.
They keep their calm, and never self-destruct.
They're the best at defense, and very efficient offensively.
They have championship experience balanced with young talent (Ginobili, Parker).

Sure, most "experts" say it'll be either the Mavs or the
Suns- two very entertaining, but unproven teams.
Dallas can have 5 17-game win streaks, for all i care,
Tim Duncan won't get awed in the finals by another
superstar. He's the "big fundamental" for a reason,
and the Spurs are still the class of the West.

Bank on it.

If the Lakers want to win within the next few years...

They need to hold on to Andrew Bynum, but trade the
failure that is knows as Kwame Brown. He's the most
disappointing #1 pick in recent years.

They need a point guard like Deron Williams or
Chris Paul. Soemone who chips in about 18 points,
dishes out a lot of assists, and controls the tempo
of the game. Putting my personal bias against Kobe aside
for a moment, Kobe is not the kind of player who reads
the defense. He relies on his amazing offensive arsenal to find a way to score- no matter what the defense gives him.
This makes him great at clutch situations, but also hurts
his FG%, and causes him to take a lot of bad shots.
With a good distributor playing the point, he can do what
he does best- score.

They need Odom to stay healthy and get better chemistry
with Kobe.

They need Smush Parker to wake the f@!# up.
He's shown potential before.

Yes! If healthy, they can beat any team. They would have one of the top records in the league right now if it were not for injuries. I'm sure the 12-14 games that they are behind the Suns is directly related to them playing the entire season without at least two of their starters in the line-up...and with very few games played with their top two players (Kobe and Lamar) playing at the same time. Even with all the injuries, the Lakers have beaten most of the top teams at least twice...so, if you don't agree with the injury factor being the difference between them and the other top teams (suns, mavs, spurs, pistons, and the heat(when healthy), then you're probably just "hating" on their success and/or potential.

Since shaq left theirs no more L.A. they dont have a real center. Kwame Brown is the biggest bust the NBA has ever seen especially being drafted by MJ. Unless they miracously draft Oden from the NCAA next year, I dont even see the Lakers sniffing not even a 2nd round playoff match.

no, Ive posted this many times on here, they are not made good enough personel wise to contend with the top teams out of the west...lacking a quality point guard and lacking experience inside (both on offense and defense, on set up and on switch transition) this team is clearly in the early stages of rebuilding...

The Lakers & Kobe suck! If they get rid of Kobe they'll be a dynasty team!

If they can stay closer in games than down by 36 points I think they have a chance, LOL

not without a dominant center and better point guard... the lakers rely too much on kobe... he needs a better support crew...

only if the NBA officials wanted them to...they get dominated up front..the guys in the middle are too young..smush parker is always one step from the D league..with both odom & walton hurt, they are really hurting..no bench, no chance...
