Gee what kind of car.

Can you put a wrench on the damper bolt and turn it over by hand, you may have seized the motor.

It could also be the starter motor. If that was replaced then maybe the starter solenoid.

Try jump starting the car with another car. maybe dirty cables....

If the battery is bad and not holding enough charge you will get the clicking sound and the lights will turn on. Now if your battery is fully charged and then it makes the clicking sound, then most likely the starter.

But when you start it up and then the car dies down the road, either the battery or the alternator is bad. The battery needs so much electricity to run the car. The alternator supplies that electircity by constantly charging the battery. If you find the alternator is bad then make sure the battery if FULLY charged when you put the new alternator in. But take the battery off and go to a place where they can check it for free. If it is good then get it charged and if it starts then you need to look at your alternator next. If the battery and alterntor are good and the car clicks, remember, it is the starter

Get a Haynes Repair Manual at the local Auto Zone or auto parts store in your area. It will troubleshoot and show you how to fix your vehicle. Also on the Auto Zone site has a section for vehicle maintenance
