Sweden is mean to have a really effective health scheme that doesn't cost Swedish taxpayers the earth.
Holland has one of the lowest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe.
Belgium provides free full-time education from kindergarden at age 3 right through till age 18.
The U.S. has some really clever detox programmes in state and federal prisons with an average success rate of over 50%.
France has the TGV.
Do you think the UK could or should learn from other countries? And if so what?

If you can learn from your mistakes great. If you can learn from others mistakes all the better. it also applies to successes

Believe it or not, Portugal has some very high tech solutions which seem so simple compared to what exists in the UK.

For example, you can pay for toll roads and bridges, and in many car-parks, using an electronic detector called "via verde" which is a box stuck inside your windscreen. It is read at entrances and exits and you pay automatically from your account without lifting a finger.

Another example - there's a nationwide network of interconnected cash machines which can be used by anyone from any bank ("multibanco") - and you're never more than a few hundred metres away from a multibanco machine...

Er, there are no licencing hours here... but I believe the UK is slowly catching up there.

I think Britain also lags behind in offering paid maternity and paternity leave. Even by comparison with Portugal. The trouble is, Britain was so civilised so soon that it retains some pretty old fashioned attitudes and rules and has this "we´re the best" attitude which is often not borne out by the facts...

Respect for the older generation, their own parents, any old folks whether you know them or not. I see this particular aspect very lacking, especially compared with China.

i think we do try and take on board some of what other countries do in certain situations. for instance we cite what other countries do about teenage pregnancy's. i don't know if we copy them though

We need to be more like the USA with a constitution that secures our rights, tougher punishments for crimnals, less government interference and a fair legal system that allows you to defend yourself.

loads as they can also learn from us good or bad sure the gov will take on board the good and leave out the ugly as in other countries I hope ....
