To use my credit card in the Asiasoft site, I have to provide the site people with a scanned copy of the front and the back of my credit card. I was just wondering if that's illegal. Is it?

Scanning and sending copies of your card is not illegal. It's the same thing that happens in a store in the old "clicker" credit card machines - they are making a copy of your card.

Do be careful of who you give the copy to. Make sure they are a reputable website.

It isn't illegal, but it isn't wise to do. With a scanned copy of your credit card, they have a copy of your signature as well as the security code on your card. This is the kind of thing that is used to commit identity theft. Asian countries are also very prominent when it comes to identity theft.

You also have to be careful when using your credit card at stores these days because of the clerks having camera phones. A pizza place cashier in my town was caught taking a photo of a customers credit card recently.

If they can't take your info on the phone, or if they can't get the needed info online, just do business elsewhere.

I would not trust this site at all. There is no reason for a site to need the scan of your card, you would be giving them a copy of your signature (if the back of your card is signed) and the security numbers that are located on the back of the card.

This would give them complete access to all of your account information.

No reputable company requires this information in order to process payment, they are able to access any information they need through your creditor by the charge card number alone.

Have a good day.

Is it illegal? Probably not. A better question would be, should I conform to their requests and send them scanned copies of my credit cards? To which the answer is definitely NO, unless it's a prepaid credit card. If you're concerned about sending scanned copies, as you should be, at the very least get a prepaid credit card that isn't tied to personal information. Scan that and send that to them. I would be very careful with companies like these. Is their network secure enough from hackers as to protect your scanned credit card on file? Who knows. Be very careful.

I don't think it's illegal for you to scan your own card, but their request sounds a little fishy. I can't exactly explain why, but I don't think sending a copy of your credit card to anyone is a good idea.

Back in the day ppl would copy your credit card. But in this day and age with so much fraud companies have stopped doing that. I would suggest you find another company to work with that doesn't request you to make copies of your credit card.

Keep in mind by doing this, your safety is only as good as how they handle the trash with important documents. Do they shred them, burn them or just rip and toss? Not worth it man.

I have done lots of business over the net and have never experienced this type of request. This immediately causes my "hackles" to rise. This is a Phishing site and wants a copy of your credit card.

Phishing sites will look and act just like the legit site except their only purpose is to get your personal information to steal your identity.

I suspect you may have a Trojan that is directing you to this Phishing site instead of the real Asiasoft site.

Go to this site and do the online scan using ewido.

Not illegal, but not safe !

I pay with Paypal linked to a credit card - it's safe and easy.

Shouldn't be. They want to see if you hold the card. If you trust the site the same way as giving them the data, then do it. It is actually a bit dumb, since you could photo edit a card to make the numbers match a card you had only seen, but it is clearer evidence of fraud to have it on file.
