no that is incorrect. while thety have their challenges -most metro areas do and many other cities are far worse in regards to education and poverty. i think detroit gets a bad reputation based on some past history. i grew up around detroit and it was always a treat to go into the city. as for the person saying you can't dirve.... get a clue.... single female, who can turn a head or two, w ho would drive AND walk trough detroits downtwon areas on her own to join up with friends or just walk around town when i needed a break from work!

I wouldn't say Detroit is the worst city to live in, but there are parts of it I won't even go in and I've lived in Detroit all my life. There is crime, and there are uneducated people; as with anywhere. But to be frank, if I had a choice I wouldn't move here. It's rare to see people that actually finish college and even more rare to find people that want to go. Jobs are scarce and that has an effect on the crime rate. I am not afraid to live here, there aren't many crimes like murders ...basically theft and drugs. Detroit isn't a scary place, it definitely has potential and gets bashed more than it should.

in the starting up, do not question your Grandpa. And 2d off, sure it replaced right into a international classification city at the same time as all the major united statescar manufactures were stationed in Detroit. issues went undesirable because overseas automobile manufactures began to conquer out Ford and G.M so the outsourced maximum of the jobs leaving Mo city in the gutter.

OMG...Detroit could have been beautiful if its mayor past and present put as much effort in it as they did in their vanity. There was one Mayor (Dennis Archer) that tried to rebuild detroit, but was not popular with the blacks(which are the majority), even though he was black, I think he thought he was too mainstream. I grew up there and detroit is awful, very dangerous place. I think eventually detroit will end up like Gary, Indiana. Downtown detroit looks abandon for the most part, especially after 5:00 p.m. , other than a few skycrapers and the river there isnt anything special about downtown. Detroit is "ghetto" and it will remain like that until they vote a mayor in that isnt ghetto. Speaking of uneducated people, the detroit school board wanted to close alot of schools, they need to improve their cirriculum, the level of education they offered me was pitiful. One thing that is good about deroit, is that I feel they do offer alot of opportunities for people to learn a trade for free.Anyone who wants to defend detroit's crime rate must not know any facts, how can you defend their murder capital title in the previous years? Detroit is 2nd murder capital 2006. Pathetic!

I consider Detroit as the most careless city in the United States but I would not call it the Worst City in The World. After all, there are hundrends of cities throughout the world that have the characteristics similar to Detroit including poor public transportation, corruption, poor education standards, and crime.

not true...
I lived there for some time in the past, and while it is a rough town, I can honostly say I felt safer there, by far, than when in East LA. Detroit is a beautiful city on the river, has some neighborhoods you want to avoid, but is not nearly as rough as some towns. The northern suburbs are okay.

there are many different ways to figure this question, first of all dont forget if you are measuring crime it definitley is not the WORST city in the world, also dont forget detroit is a city of industry where vehicles and such are made that support our economy. the worst large city per crime capita in the US is Tuscon arizona, they have a large property crime rate (but a low murder rate). New orleans has the worst violence crime rate. overall the most dangerous city in the US is ST. Louis, MI

Um, duh, yup. Dem Deetroiters is da dumbest ones. Actually, Detroit it home to the world class St. John & Henry Ford Hospitals, Wayne State University and the one and only African American Museum. There are many wonderful museums like the Detroit Insitute of Art, Detroit Historical Museum and Motown Museum. Detroit, like any other city, has its faults but its still a great place to work and grow. Whoever tells you other wise is an idiot. For some reason, people seem to make themselves feel better by speaking negatively about Detroit. All it really does is reveal their low esteem and their lack of education.

If you are basing it on crime and uneducated people then the whole world is the worst place to be. To me it's the worst place because it's old, ugly, dreary and slow. I'm absolutely a California girl.
