Well in each trimester the baby is rapidly growing and developing in preparation for birth. I believe that the baby grows the most in the first trimester because at that time it is developing its organs that are most essential to life. In the second trimester the baby is developing more advanced things like growing hair and nails, bones are starting to strengthen, sounds and eye sight develops. In the last trimester the baby is mainly growing in terms of gaining more weight and finalizing the stages of the developing lungs so that it can breathe outside the womb. The baby is also more active in terms of moving around and practicing its newfound reflexes. Its really amazing because there are so many things that are happening! I am now 32 weeks along with my second child and sometimes I really believe he is a brave little one to go through so many changes inside of me. It's a miracle really and so awesome to think about.

Function like how? Survive? All sustaining nutrients are passed by the placenta through the umbilical cord to the baby.
