if you have another good second baseman than it is a very good trade but its always hard to give up a-rod. Overall it is a good trade though

Well if you are that desperate for pitching.... I still wouldn't do it. Verlander got worn out towards the end of his rookie year and could possibly have a sophomore slump. K-Dice is still adapting to American baseball, so I think he will have an up and down first year. Rolen tends to get hurt every year. A-Rod is consistent and one of the best fantasy players and Giles could rebound from an off year because he will be the leadoff man for the same team that his older brother is on, the Padres.

I wouldnt do it. The reason is based on the fact that you are giving up a top 5 talent and getting too many question marks in return. Verlander had a very good year and should improve (recently a group of major league scouts rated his fastball as the toughest to hit in baseball) but he is still young and subject to an occasional bad outing. Matasuka is an even bigger question mark. Is he as good as the hype? Personally I think he will do well, he did dominate at the WBC tournament against major league hitting but he has to overcome intense media scrutiny, culture issues and a tough town (if he gets rocked a couple times early Red Sox fans will be all over him in no time). Rolen is a good 3rd sacker but not nearly at the level of ARod and has injury issues (and declining fantasy numbers). Scour your free agent list , surely there are guys that have been overlooked. See if guys like Annibel Sanchez, Jeremy Sowers, Nate Robertson (thinking career year with him this season, numbers last season were good but got no run support) Scott Olsen, Tom Glavine, Rich Hill, Chuck James, David Bush (another I really like), John Maine, Kevin Millwood (dont understand why more fantasy teams dont draft him, I guess 15 wins and 150 Ks per mean nothing, forget last years 4.52 era his career numbers are much better), Jeff Francis. If none of these are to your liking then wait for this years crop of new stars to emerge, it happens every year ( last year gave us Hamels, Verlander , Liriano, Jered Weaver, Kazmir, Josh Johnson). Pitching is easy to obtain during the course of the season, never give up your best player to fix the easiest part of fantasy to improve without giving up good players. I won 6 of 8 Yahoo leagues last year and never drafted a starting pitcher before the 9th round (and wont again this year). If you cant find good starting pitching then pick 2 or 3 dominating set up men and take their high strikeout numbers per inning pitched and their amazingly low ERA and WHIP (all you lose is wins but better to dominate Ks, ERA and WHIP then to worry about wins at the expense of the other categories.

Its not too bad. I mean you dont need Giles. A rod for Rolan and Masuka is good and then adding Verlander. I think its a great trade. (especially if you need pitching) Plus you still have a good 3ber to back you up. I would pull the trigger on that trade

scott rolen is a very good 3rd basemen and justin verlander did very good for the detriot tigers they are predicting he will get a 14-11 record 138K's and a 3.86 era and dice-k is great and i think he will rookie of the year and be one of the best pitchers and i dont like a-rod and giles is decent but if you got roberts take that trade and run

i don't like the looks of this.
Im not an a rod fanatic, and i am a rollen fan, but having to drop a player and give up a rod and marcus giles (primed for a career year) just isn't worth the pitching you gain.
Counter w/o giles and trow in a decent SS if you have one and a scrub outfielder.

I would give up A- Rod, but if I did it would be for two proven pitchers and Rolen not a guy who has never pitched in the majors.

Hmm, this may help. You have to drop a guy too in a 2 for 3 swap. Matasuka better live up to the hype but that's what you're hoping for. Half the fun of fantasy is making tades and seeing how they pan out. Good luck.

Don't trade A-Rod for shoulda, coulda and woulda.
2006 BA .290 HR 35 RBI 121
And that was considered a bad year.
