They are using religion to support their greed....

Hmm...

I think there are a lot of "bad eggs" in this country when it comes to religion. True Christians are hard to come by...

I guess that means so many are not that religious, but say they are.

As for the broken family, that can be viewed in different ways. Some middle eastern countries believe killing the wife when you are through with her is acceptable, if not, they also use the excuse that the females family did not supply them with enough sheep or rice or something. Then the husband has the right to kill her. Fire is a common method of doing this.

Broken families in the United States or the west are a lot more civilized. And could be looked at by the rest of the world as humane.

You are right America is religious, but it is not spiritual. There is a difference between religion and spirituality. The fact that people in this nation see materialistic things as a positive shows that they worship those items as idols. The United States is more geared for depravity then spirituality. We have been pushing God out of our country Eventually the hand of God is not going to cover this country and When things happen people will curse God. Idol worship is prevalent in this country, more so than when the Jews were in the desert.

Statistically they do have more broken families than anywhere else. The word my friend that you are looking for is Hypocrite. They lifestyle in Am. is get up,go to work, come home, get up, go to work... There is no emphasis on being a family, the emphasis is on money and how much we have, and what we look like to others. The break down of the nuclear family (mom, dad, kids) is the root of all these problems

But Americans still try to justify and hide behind whatever reason they can find(religion, entitlement wheatever)

Because they are so religious.

They don't have the power of God in their lives to change their natural tendencies, they are just religious (traditions/customs).

Man loves things or possessions, not just Americans. But we tend to think the one with the most toys wins. I got off that merry-go-round long ago.

I am happy just having a roof over my head, a modest car, a little money in my savings, an occasional vacation, and a family who loves me.

Most Americans are really not that materialistic, you just hear about those types more often in the media.

Because Religion teaches you how to convince yourself that you're right all the time. See George Bush, et al.

Spirituality teaches you how to grow into a better person.

If more Americans (as well as other nationalities) would practice Spirituality, we would probably have a lot less of all societal ills.
Good luck.

b/c americans do everything 1/2 ***, even religion. I am american...so dont anyone say mean things that I am a foreigner and dont know what I am talking about....we are also very hypocritical.

We have sucha short history as a nation, and arent totally entrenched in any old customes that we respect like others, such as jews. No matter what you think anout the group as a whole, jewish folks are very steeped in a tradition and havce a great respect for their tradition, we just dont have that in america.

It's pretty simple. It is the way society has been brought up.

Why try hard to make a marriage work? Hell, if you don't like it, toss it away. No one will judge you. You can always get another one.

It's not like the words commitment, honor, self-respect mean much today any way.

I see 2 different issues/questions. Ist RE religious...broken families: The trouble they have had probably caused them to turn to God more than someone who (thinks) he/she has no troubles. 2nd...Yes it is weird how materialistic religious people can be...they also must think that no trouble will come if they worship God. They tend to spend instead of saving or sharing a blessing of resources.

That depends on how you define "broken". It works here, because women have other options for survival than a husband. In many countries, if the man is lazy, abusive, or adulterous, his wife is left with no options but to tough it out because she can't leave. Women aren't allowed to file for divorce, can't get jobs to support themselves, and would become social pariahs if they tried. Just because the marriage is indissoluble, doesn't mean it isn't broken.

Unfortunately, our country isn't as religious as you might think.

I challenge you to really find out how many of the broken families you know of that are really regular church-goers and committed to a genuine relationship with Christ.

Besides, just because we are religious, doesn't mean we are immune to sin.
