Doesn't sound good if you need to get files. Depends on where the disk error resides. Sounds as if your hard drive is going bad or is already bad. You hear any odd noise over the last few months or notice a sputtering when navigating in Windows? Good indicator you're on your way to crash. If it is the hard drive, get a new one from a local store or web site such as New Egg. Put it in place of your current drive and reload the OS via recovery. Add your old drive back on another port as a slave device. (usually there are two connectors per IDE port, sometimes temporarily removing the CD-rom drive and connecting to that connector works) Try seeing if when you boot from your new drive whether you can recover some of those music files. There are other ways of which you'll probably hear in response to you post. You also can try adding the bad drive to any other desktop as a slave or finding a way to boot a disc image like the Linux Bart discs. But that is complicated if you ask me.

It would not give you that message if there was a cd in the drive. Though it would if you had a floppy in the floppy drive.

Then take the side panel off and make sure the hard drive connections are seated properly to the hard drive and the motherboard.

If there is still a problem, you will probably need to get someone to look at it.

Try going into your bios settings, and change the boot sequence.
Your hdd may have become unplugged.
If u r running xp, get a disk and set it to boot from cdrom, and reinstall windows.
Go to driverguide.com and download a boot disk.

The first thing is, DO YOU HAVE A CD/DVD IN THE CD/DVD DRIVE? If so, take it out. If not, your operating system is kaput. You will need system disks to fix it.
