I'm 17 weeks today and I'm a little nervous about weight gain. I gained probably 6 or 7 pounds my first trimester and I've weighed myself for the past three weeks, knowing that I should be gaining about a pound a week. The first week I weighed 166, the next week 168, this week 167...I know I didn't actually lose a pound, I'm sure the scale is just off a little depending on different factors. I weigh myself at the same time every morning and only on Monday. I feel like I've gained weight and my tummy has gotten bigger in the last 3 weeks - so why does it seem that I'm not gaining weight? Should I be trying to gain more weight? I know everyone is different but I don't want to be unhealthy! I want to start walking again now that the sun is out and the weather is warmer but now I am afraid of losing weight!! Any advice would be awesome - thank you in advance :-)

I am sure you'll be fine. Sometimes you lose a little when you are pregnant. It depends on different things. You might lost a pound in water weight. Or it's taking a little more energy to run your body now that you are pregnant and you may lose a pound from that. Don't worry about the baby though it will always get what it needs., even though you are losing weight. The recommended amount of weight gain depends on different things if you are of "average weight" then you need to gain 35 pounds a little more or a little less is still fine. Another thing walking is great for you and can actually help with delivery. As long as you are in good health and have no complications, walk. Walk every day if you want to it isn't going to do any harm. Just avoid running, that puts you at greating risk of falling. Let's face it pregnant women don't have the best balance. Also the reason your tummy has gotten bigger in 3 weeks is the obvious you are pregnant and at a point where your baby is growing a lot. Be prepared this stage ain't nothing..lol.. Just wait until the third trimester...

You are perfectly fine. I am 21 weeks pregnant and at first I was losing weight because of so much morning sickness, now I am gaining which is real good. The normal pregnancy weight gain in all is 25-35 pounds. As long as you are eating like you should and dont keep yourself hungry then you are okay. Walking is actually a great thing to do when you are pregnant. You wont gain unnecesary weight if you walk when pregnant.

If you don't gain more than 15 to 25 pounds during your entire pregnancy you will have a much easier time getting the weight back off with a minimal effort. But try not to obsess about it; you will probably go through alot of hormonal and body changes during your pregnancy. Just listen to your doctor and don't forget your prenatal vitamins.

You actually sound alot like me. I gained 5-6 pounds in the first trimester and then started gaining steadily approx. a pound a week after that. As long as you are trying to eat healthy and get some excercise you should be fine. Just listen to what you body is telling you to do. If you are craving something it is probably because the baby needs it. I know that I have been pretty concerned about weight gain aswell. But as long as you are careful, it should all even itself out in the end. I gained steadily until 33 weeks and I haven't gained anything since. I am now 38 weeks and the doctor is not concerned. I have lots of energy and the baby is very active, so the weight I gained before is now evening itself out. I have only gained 26 pounds, which is perfect. The less I gain the less I have to lose. And I am still eating healthy. The doctor told me that back in England, they used to tell women they shouldn't gain more than 20 pounds (which is silly because you will probably lose 17 pounds right away) but he told me not to worry about not gaining right now. Every woman is different as you said. I know women that have gained 50-60 pounds and still lost it all relatively soon afterwards. Just dont use being pregnant as an excuse to pig out. Like I said, listen to what your body tells you. Dont force yourself to eat too much or too little. Eat until you are satisfied. And right now dont feel guilty about not eating everything that is on your plate. We have had that drilled into our heads as kids that we have to clear our plates, but if you are satisfied, you are only eating calories that you body doesn't need. Try eating small amounts often.
Dont overdo it with the excercise, but dont worry about the baby either. The baby will take what it needs. I think I read that with excercise when you are pregnant, you should not let yourself get so out of breath that you cant carry on a conversation. If you lose a little weight, that is okay, but if it becomes alot of weight, talk to your doctor. You should not be trying to lose weight right now, but you still need some excercise. Just dont overdo it. If you are losing too much then cut back on what you are doing.
Good luck, I hope I helped.
p.s. I had that happen to me too that I was getting bigger but not gaining any weight. I dont exactly know why it happens like that, but it is normal in pregnancy. My doctor didn't explain it but said that it's fine.

Don't worry. You will start putting on weight near the end.
I gained a total of 5 pounds during my entire pregnancy, but in the last month, gained FIFTY pounds!
What does your doc say? Listen to him/her.
