When shifting into 2nd gear, after our foot is off of the clutch it sometimes takes a few seconds for it to actually go into gear. Also, if we throw down the gas, it tends to feel as though it's slipping. Does this sound as though our clutch is going bad? How long should we drive it like this? How much is the approximate cost to replace it?

Depending on the vehicle
Front wheel drive 8-1000 bucks
Rear wheel 5-700
4 Wheel drive GEEZ about 1100

This sounds like it is going out and you will replace the pressure plate, Clutch disk and the throwout bearing. if the disc has scratched the flywheel then you are talking about extra cost as that will have to be pulled and turned or replaced depending on the amount of damage which adds about 100 buck more...I would drive it to the shop now, as I stated if the rivets of the disk gouge the flywheel you are looking at more cost.

Don't know the cost for replacement, but slipping it is. Clutch plate could be bad, out of adjustment, springs on pressure plate broken or weak. The more it slips the hotter it gets. Don't "throw down the gas"
