I recently had a female guest over to my brand new house. She was wearing high-heeled shoes, and the heels caused small indentions ALL OVER my brand new hardwood (laminate) floor. The indentions are unsightly, and unfortunately, are all over the floor! I am extremely upset, and I've been searching for the most cost-effective way to fix the hardwood floors. Any ideas?

if it is laminite than you probably would not have any
dents. it is most likely hardwood.
and NO!, your wood is not inferior, unless you have
something hard like mahogony, hard maple, brazilian
cherry or such, you will get those indents with heels.
in theory, the water to raise the grain sounds good,
but ive tried it dozens of times and does no good.

honestly the best way to solve this is not to solve it.
its either gonna cost a fortune or you can just hope
that in time, the floor gets worn down enough that they blend
in. Also, you can learn from your misakes and NEVER
let anybody walk with heels again on your floor.

good luck.

If you just had the house built less than a year ago, I'd contact the builder. If it is due to poor material/shoddy building and it is within the first year of being built, then you should be able to have the flooring replaced. Normally, per law, the builder is responsible for anything that breaks due to workmanship within the first year, provided you report it in time.

The material sounds like a cheap laminate flooring. That is one reason why it is sometimes better to pay more for quality.

If you had the flooring installed yourself just recently, you might take pictures and contact the manufacturer.

If all else fails and you really really want it fixed. Send an email to some high-up executive in the company that is giving you problems. Normally, you can do and internet search and find the CEO or some other big-whig's name. Normally their email is some form of their name at the company name. Might take a couple of attempts before you don't get the Mailer Daemon thing. I've normally found that if you send an email to the right person, you'd be surprised how quickly they'll jump to make you happy.

There is no such thing as hardwood laminate. It's either wood, or it is laminate. Laminate is pressboard with a laminated covering, i.e. plastic like formica. If that is what you have, it should not have left any indention, if it did, call the manufacturer. They have reps who only go out and check for problems with their materials. It sounds, like you have real wood, and in that case it is cheap. You are pretty much screwed. The good thing is, in a year or so, the floor will be so damaged, that you won't notice the indentions at all.

first... the hardwood should have withstood the person wearing heels walking on it. the inability to withstand someone walking over the floor is a sign of inferior material.

You can attempt to raise the grain back by applying a damp cloth and ironing. The steaming sometimes helps. However with laminates (especially cheap ones) it can delaminate the floor.

There is no other solution I know of...
