I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. Most miscarriages will happen within the first three months. Doctors like to think of three months as the safe number. (but some miscarriages can happen after that, it is just not as likely). The most common reason that a miscarriage happens is because something is wrong with either the egg or the sperm. If you miscarry it is because the baby was not developing right. It is NOTHING the woman did. (unless she is drinking, smoking, or doing drugs excessivly). Just keep in mind that if it does happen to you that 1in 3 pregnancies end in miscarriage and most of the time the woman does not even know she was pregnant. (I know that does not comfort anybody, it certainly did not comfort me at the time) but it is true and they are fairly common.
Good Luck and DO NOT STRESS that will make it harder on your body.
I wish you all the best :)

The majority of miscarriages occur withing the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. This is because the major systems of the fetus' body are developing at this time. After 12 weeks, most of the major systems are set and they will only continue to grow throughout the next 24-28 weeks. The systems that are being set up during the first trimester are crucial (nervous, cardiac, digestive, etc.). They are also very delicate. If there are any chromosomal flaws in these basic building blocks, it can lead to the death of the fetus.

Once these systems are established, the rate of miscarriage drops dramatically. The most common cause of miscarriage later in a pregnancy is related either to problems with the placenta or cervical problems.

I have read that flight attendants who do a lot of high altitude flying have a slightly higher risk of miscarriage, but it is only a small increase and does not apply to people who only fly on occasion.

The main factors to consider if you are worried about miscarrying are these:
1) maternal age-below 30 has lowest miscarriage rate
2) maternal health-any history of recent chronic illness, morbid obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, or past recurrent miscarriages?
3)smoking-a mother who smokes or is around smoke a lot has an increased risk of miscarriage
4) paternal age-if the father is over 40, it may slightly increase miscarriage risk
5) anything that may deform the uterus, including large internal fibroids or scarring from previous surgery
Hope this helps!

First of all - I'm really rather annoy and concerned with some of the answers that you received. i.e. The cord wrapping around a baby's neck is not a miscarriage - it would cause still born. Of course drugs use, extreme stress and /or car accidents can cause a fetus' dimise, but they are all very very unlikely - most miscarriages occur because of a chormosomal problem for the baby. there is a pervasive stereotype that if a woman miscarries, she was doing something wrong i.e. drinking, was abusive to herself etc. In reality, that's just not the case.

My miscarriage was January 17 of this year - I was 15 weeks along when we saw no heartbeat. The baby had stopped growing at 10 weeks. When I was 12 Weeks, my OBGYN said my rate of miscarraige was close to 0 because we'd seen the heart beat on the ultrasound at 10 weeks. You never really know...

Most miscarriages DO occur in the first trimester, and they are pretty common - you're chances decrease as you proceeed in your pregnancy. After 20 weeks of pregnancy, the death of the fetus isn't considered a 'miscarraige' per say - it's a still born - there is a big difference between the two.

Best Wishes to you - I hope you never have to feel this pain.

Miscarriages usually occur during the first trimester, but you are at risk for miscarriage throughout your pregnancy, it's just as you progress the risk lowers.

Flying does not cause miscarriages, the reason flying is not recommended during the last trimester is because you could be on a flight when you go into labor without a doctor or midwife around.

i had a miscarriage at 6 weeks so it does tend to be early in the pregnancy and like the pp before said if it happens later on it is usually that there was something wrong with the baby and yes you can fly up until you hit the 3rd trimester i flew when i was 3 months pregnant and had no problem but if you fly in your 3rd trimester there is a chance you could go into labor mid flight because of pressure changes and things like that but just to be on the safe said before you plan on flying ask your doctor

I had 3 miscarriages before 12 weeks, all developmental issues. I am currently 8 weeks pregnant and I am a little anxious.

My gf had a miscarriage within the first 3 months.
I think as far as miscarriages go, it all depends on how your body is, and if it "rejects" the baby or not. or when. Another factor is if you have a car accident, that could cause a miscarriage, no matter how far along you are.

Yes...most miscarriages occur in the first trimester. Flying during the last trimester can cause early miscarriage...mow airlines won't let you fly then anyways.
