Try using a fine steel wool (from a hardware store, not soap pad type). If badly burned, you may have to sand it. If the table has a protective coating such as polyurethane, shellac or varnish, you may need to recoat it after removing the burnt stains.

well i do a little wood finishing so there are several things to consider
Is the wood burned?
What is the finish made of?
The answer to the first question is important if the wood is burned it could be very expensive to fix so much so that if the table is not very valuable it will be cost prohibitive. (burns are very difficult to fix)
If just the finish is hurt than that can be better. there is one problem if the finish is epoxy or catalyzed. It is nearly impossible to remove. Epoxy or catalyzed finish set up like concrete you cant take it back to its original liquid state. test this by poring a little paint stripper on the inside of one legs of the table. if the finish doesn't melt off in a couple of minutes you might be in big trouble. It will be Epoxy or catalyzed finish.
Finally if the wood is not burned and the finish can be stripped then your going to have to strip the whole table and refinish it. I would suggest shelack or a ethane finish that can be applied with a brush and sanded smooth.
you are looking at a lot of work so in the end you might just paint it or live with it or just throw it away because fixing it is going to be a big job
I am sorry i could not be of any more help or have an easy answer.
