Does anyone know roughly how many Knysna Seahorses are left in the wild???
Reliable and serious answers only...Don't just guess please!

Tough to answer, but as of 2000 there were at least 250. We know that because they were assessed for the IUCN red list that year, and they received Endangered status, not Critically Endangered. Species with less than 250 mature adults in the wild are listed as Critically Endangered.

I can't seem to find any specific population number on the web.

All I can find is that their population is 'low', and that the population in the Knysna estuary is fairly stable, but the populations in the connected Swartvlei and Keurbooms estuaries varies wildly from season to season. And these are the only three estuaries where the seahorse is found.

sorry, found a lot of sites that mentioned the seahorse, but none were willing to give an estimated number. From what I could see, they haven't been studied as much as other fish have been, so no good estimate CAN be given...sorry.
