a small intro-
In a solar panel, usually, an assembly of solar cells is present, which themselves are black. Then the 'array' of these solar cells is covered by a sheet of glass to improve the efficiency of solar cells by greenhouse effect.
Obviuosly, the glass cant be painted black or it will not let light reach the cells.

Your real answer-
Yes....becoz solar cells hv silicon, which is NOT black in colour. So they are coloured black, (but this is not simple paint of corse)
Considering ur science project, u know why it is done so?
u say that dark colours absorb more light....well.....thats becoz they appear black !!!!!!! i mean, becoz they absorb more light they appear dark....not vice versa as u say. Things which appear light or white reflect more light and hence appear brighter.

THUS, blacker or darker colored objects are more efficient in absorbing light than lighter ones.

remember that its property of the substance that determines its light absorbitivity, and HENCE its colour, and this not applicable vice versa.

changing the colour would affect it, keep it at a darker colour becuase when you have a lighter colour they tend to repell light and only let a limited amout in, and when you have a darker colour they attract light and convert it into heat and engery, want proofe try going out on a sunny day with a black shirt on, than feel how hot you get, than go out in a white shirt feel the diffrence
