Perspective.

Keep trying to put things in perspective.

This annoying thing: Will I care about this a month from now? Will I even remember it ten years from now?

Does this thing that seems the most important thing ever, right now; how big a deal is it, really?

Also, try to see things the way others do.

The person who's annoying you; are they TRYING to bother you, or is that just how they are?

Try not to take everything personally; not everything is directed at you.

Try to remind yourself that everyone has things bothering them, everyone has problems, everyone has wants, needs, and annoying character traits.

Give up the idea that you can have what you want, or that other people should conform to your ideas of what they should be.

It's all about internal dialog.

When you find yourself starting to get cranky, take a slow, deep breath, then another, and remind yourself that this thing is no big deal, or this person doesn't really mean any harm (or whatever).

Use the 10-year rule -- will I care in ten years?

Then you can focus your attention on the things that really are big deals, that really do matter, that you really can't take.

Pick your battles thusly, let most battles go unfought; it's not worth it.

Can't help thinking of Buffy's speech to Jonathan in the clock tower -- No one cares about your pain because they're too busy with their own.

We're all in pain, a lot of the time. Even people who annoy you.
