I had my car worked on recently and since I got it back the lights inside will not shut off even while driving or when the car is off. The only way I can make it shut off is by unhooking the battery. But that doesn't solve the problem. Any ideas what to do so I dont have to take it back to the shop? It's a '96 Ford Explorer.

I am referring to the dome lights if that helps!

Check the dimmer for the dash lights, if it is set all the way on, most models will have the dome lights on as well. The dimmer is usually a little thumbwheel somewhere on the the dash.
If this is not it, check the door switches, they are the next most common cause of the problem. Look for a little mushroom shaped plunger sticking out of the part of the car which the doors are hinged to, and there will be the switch.
I wish you well with this problem, car weirdnesses are no fun at all.

Do u mean the dome lights? Or the dash/radio lights? If its the dome lights did you look to see if it has a switch on the light itself? Most cars have switches on the dome light and if it is switched on it will not turn off. You have to put it on the mode (usually the you slide it to the middle) where it will work with the doors(when you open & close them). If not definitely take it back to the shop. They can't make you pay for something they did.

The door switches on Fords are part of the latching assembly inside the door. It's very common for them to stick. I've fixed this on my Taurus just by spraying plenty of WD-40 into the latch mechanism. I did this to my driver's door 2 years ago and it's been fixed since; had to do my passenger door last week. Give it a try; just spray in some WD-40 and open and shut the door a few times.

Check for a switch inside near the back hatch. And ofcourse, there is a switch for the driver to use on the dash board, usually built into the headlight switch.
