In a nutshell, the AoC left all the power in the hands of the state so that if the nation felt the need to go to war, it had no ability to gain funds from taxation. This meant that if Virginia didn't want to go to war, they wouldn't have to. The AoC was meant to go completely against anything the people had faced under the control of the Crown. Obviously without a strong central government, a democratic nation can't survive.
To put it simply, look at the term Confederacy. It means a loose alliance between groups of people or states. Unfortunately, representatives made it very loose. However, take a look out there because as was said above, there were a lot of changes.

From the Articles to the Constitution -- taxes. The Constitution gives Congress the power to levy taxes, a power they did not have under the Articles of Confederation.
Power was also far more centralized under the new constitution, with a significantly stronger national government.
Those would be the two biggest changes.

The States gave up their sovereignty. Nothing else compares. The very word "Confederacy" means independent sovereign states. All else that happened was subsequent to giving up sovereignty. So it was the major point of the Constitution.
