I have no idea why people respond in months when they are over a year old! It bugs me that people do that. My son is 6mo old and I stopped saying his age in weeks after 3mo old. I know I won't be one of those parents that do that, I personally think it's stupid. And I do agree with some of the answers that it makes them sound older for some reason or another......Good luck with this question! Why make people have to do the math???

All medical facilities requre that babies age be given in months until the age of 2 (or 24 months) because of the dramatic changes that are still occuring throughout the first year and 2 years of life. There is a big difference in an 13 month old and a 20 month old, even though there are both technically 1. Once a kid is 24 months, then he is just 2.......but it is still a habit to be using months, not years. afterall, the moms have been doing it 24 times.......

I think of it this way. Okay so I baby learned so much in the first 2 years and alot of times they learn things in a matter of months(crawl at 6 moths, walk at 11 months, etc. So talking about your baby in months not years because your used to saying 0-12 months so you keep going. Like lets say your child said their first word at 15 months, you can pinpoint his/her age better rather then saying she said it at age 1. But then 24 months is they same as two so I don't understand why they say it instead of 2, either, it's the same with 12 months also. But we don't call age 3 as 36 months either.

Children this age develop so fast. The age of two brings children through two time periods...Toddlerhood and Preschool. Toddlers are 15 months to two years nine months, and Preschoolers are two years nine months until age 5. People answer this question in months to give a more clear age because of the difference in development that happens during the second year.

I always think about that too. In my opinion, I think people get depressed as babies grow older and months always sounds like a baby, once you start saying years, it means they are getting big. Stupid if you ask me but thats what I think. I just became a mom 7 months ago and I promise that when my son turns 1 Im gonna say hes1, 2.....

It doesn't matter. Two is just fine.

When the baby is at some other uneven age, then I would use months....like 14 months (instead of 1 year 2 months)

I think its people trying to keep there babys babys as long as they can, like saying 13 months and not just two. But really its just personal preferance is all. I will probably say my baby is 24mnths too,

I think it's because babies advance so fast that when you give a month as an age, it helps people visualize how big and what the baby can do, such as walk, talk, crawl, roll over, eat solid foods, etc.

Because their development progresses so fast at that age. There's not much difference between a nine-year-old who just turned nine and a nine-year-old who is about to turn ten. But there is a huge amount of difference developmentally between a thirteen-month-old and a twenty-three-month old. (Even though they're both technically one year old.)

I think it depends on who is asking and who is telling. My children were always 1 but did go back to months until 1.5 and 2. The doctor's office and clothes were always on months for size, weight, height, and vaccinations. Habits.
