You didn't say where you wanted to plant it. How about Mexican petunia. It's a perennial which means it comes back and multiplies every year. It is a vigorous grower, which means you will have to thin it out or transplant after a while. It comes in two versions: one is quite tall (3-4 ft) and the other is smaller border type (12 inches) Pretty purple blooms all summer till frost.
Or you could plant zinnias from seed. They are annuals when mean they have to be reseeded each year. They come in a variety of heights and colors. Sunflowers are fun to grow and add great big splashes of color.
If you are a really patient gardener, try hollyhocks. They are bi-annuals, which mean they take two years to bloom, but what a payoff when they do. Once established they will reseed themselves and you end up getting new blooms each year. Look for them in the seed packet display.

All of these flowers love hot sunny conditions. Keep them watered but well drained.
Read up on harvesting the seeds yourself from the zinnia, sunflower and hollyhocks. One flower produces hundreds of seeds. It's an interesting hobby and saves tons of money. Good Luck!

i live in central texas, and i plant what ever i want! as long as you water it enough, and sometimes everyday during the summer, you can grow anything you want! i also am a firm believer in using a miracle grow feeder that hooks on a water hose and you spray you plants with it,because depending on the soil where you are the plants might need extra nutrients, you can find them at walmart in the gardening center! i plant any thing i want and it always does good!good luck and happy gardening!
