Have you ever been outcasted by those of your own race? Or if you are of mixed race descent, have you ever had one side discriminate you more than the other or both? I ask this because I am of Puerto Rican & Italian-Irish heritage and most often I find latinos outcast me either because I'm light-olive skinned or because I'm not "good enough" or "too white" for them; and when it comes to whites it's different responses, most likely a class thing though with them. Often some blacks will view me as "just another white person", and leave it at that while foreigners just look at me as "another American," American being "bad" in their terms. How about you? Have you ever been through that with either members of your own race or another?

Just so you know I do know its not always racial and sometimes it's just the personality of someone; but there has been many situations with me where it has. Just so you don't think I'm overly sensitive and/or trying to be ignorant.

I can definitely relate.

I am of mixed mexican-european heritage, but I still identify with being mexican. My grandmother spoke spanish to me, and I speak spanish fluently, better than most persons who are 100% mexican.

When I was younger, it was a big deal for hispanics/mexicans to identify with being a "chicano." I despised that word. One time, in class, the teacher took a survey, and asked students who considered themselves as chicanos to raise their hands. I did not raise my hand.

After class, I was given a hard time by wannabe mexican gang-bangers, who called me a Tio Taco, a coconut, and threatened to kick my butt.

yeah, whatever!
