If you want to run an under gravel filter, a powerhead would be great. If you have a power filter, you don't need a powerhead to create a current.

your fish will benefit more with the power head than the bubbles. SInce the bubbles do NOTHING to add dissolved Oxygen, what fish breath, go with the powerhead, and yes, any tank that size should have at least one.

Dissolved Oxygen, what fish breath comes from the water, and only enters the water by movement, wind, waves, fountains, filters. Bubblers and airstones do nothing to add oxygen to the water, just looks nice. I say pitch the bubbles add the powerhead better choice for both you and the fish. You can keep the bubbles if you like to look at them. The powerhead would help your fish more.

This is a freshwater tank, right?
You don't need a powerhead, no. Your filter and air pump should provide adequate water flow for fish. Adding a powerhead could be detrimental to any plants you may have, and may also make resting much more difficult for your fish.

If by any chance this is a saltwater tank, then yes you will need powerheads.

i have a 130 gallon tank and run two power heads basicly one power head is just taking water from the bottom and returning it to the top(ciculation) the other one pumps fro the bottom and returns into a bio wheel filter and creatsa water fall to increase the dissolved o2 in the tank. i have found my power heads have kept the water clearer. I would get one or two but i think you would want larger ones. i have two rio 2500hp they put out about 680 gallon per hour each.
hope this helps

You don't NEED one,but it is good to have. It adds circulation of the water and oxygen. The other filters will work more efficiently with the stronger water current.
