Why or why not?
If you would, what age would they have to be for you to think it's ok? 18? 19? Or would you stick by the legal drinking age?

Actually, in some states (Wisconsin being one) it is legal for a minor to possess and consume alcohol in the presence of a parent or guardian.

Yet that doesn't necessarily make it right.

Well, if it were legal, perhaps.
It would certainly depend on the maturity of my teenager. (of which I do not have so I cannot say.)
I know where I live the legal age is 18 and I know I was mature enough to drink at that age, but I know of several people who were not. (hmmm...I know of several people in their 30's who are still not mature enough, actually.)
I think that perhaps having a few drinks with your teen and teaching them about RESPONSIBLE drinking can teach them something as well as take away some of the secrecy and allure of drinking which will keep them from going over board when they are finally able to drink legally themselves.

The drinking age where I am is 19, and my parents would always give me a cooler or a glass of wine when I was 17 and 18, but only at home, and only when they were there. They would NEVER take me to a bar.... but then again, I don't think they have BEEN to a bar since they were 25 or so....

I have attended AA meetings for several years, and nearly all the alcoholics said they started drinking as teens.
Unfortunately, whether or not people took underage people to drink at bars, the above will not change.
What could possibly be the motivation for doing this?

No I would not because it is not legal for you to do this. Giving alcohol to your teenager would mean that you have committed the crime of providing a minor with alcohol. Parent or not, you have still violated the law.

My daughter is 19 and no I would not take her out partying with me. Booze is dangerous enough with out encouraging young people to drink. I did share a margarita with her at home last summer.
There is a reason drinking age is 21, and honestly 21 isn't old enough.

I think it depends on the maturity of the child. I drank at 18 and I was always very responsible, but some of my peers... well that's another story.

You would have no choice as a parent. It is up the the bar to manage who drinks and who doesn't. It's their license on the chopping block.

At 18-19 maybe. Maybe not. A beer at home, possible.

This used to be legal in Texas.
I can't really answer, since I'm not married, and I have no children (I'm not a democrat who doesn't know how to use birth control)
