The songs you heard were an occurence that took place more than once whereas, unless you are able to travel backwards in time, what you did last week occured only once, besides which you'll have been more interested in listening to songs than any work related matter. Might I suggest than a combination of the two halves of your dilemma could provide some resolution, I mean, you do want to become a country singer don't you?

Emotion creates strong anchors for memory. It literally connects the memories into other regions of the neural "net", increasing the number of ways it can be accessed.
Recent research on this shouldn't be hard to find, its been in the journals and magazines lately.
You also mentioned that your Dad played it repetitively, and the effect of repetition on recall has been very well-documented.
I can still remember the words to songs that I connect with teen romances or important adolescent friendships, yet I can't remember where I put last year's tax filings!

because that's continually remembered, you basically necessary to play on your mind to kick in. as quickly because it heard you play the music, it replaced into basically the on change for that memory. The mind is universal with particular sounds, and it reacts to them. case in point, once you're dozing, and also you listen someone shouting. You awaken because your mind is universal with that sound, and it likely ability someone needs help, so your mind reacts to it how that's universal with how from memory.

How old are you? I wonder if you are loosing interest in your work and/or if this is becoming just routine for you. Maybe you are dealing with/thinking about other issues as well.
It is most unlikely that you are experiencing a clinically significant decline of your cognitive functions.

My son and i were just talking about that. He said "Why can i remember things from when i was three but i cant remember yesterday?" I think the whole damn world is losing their short term memory. Maybe its all the pollution :] Or drug abuse.Hahahaha

This is very common, and you'll notice it especially in older people. Our long-term memories are stronger than our short-term memories. P.S. Our sense of smell is the most heightened of all our senses.
