Yeah, that's a great idea. Due to budget cut backs, many schools are cutting down (or eliminating) their Physical Ed programs. So let's throw a McDonalds into the school. In about 10 years America will be known not as "Land of the Free", but "Land of the Fat and Lazy".

I realize that there are some serious health concerns with a diet of fast food such as McDonalds; and instilling better eating habits in children and teens is probably a good idea. However, the meals served in a “traditional” lunchroom are not much better (if any) as far as fat and calorie content goes. The typical school lunches consist of meals like pizza, chicken nuggets, chili burrito, or cheeseburgers. What’s the difference?

The real advantage of having a restaurant such as McDonalds in a school is that the school receives a lot of money from the on campus proprietor. Schools need funding badly! The school building I work in has classroom that flood when it rains and heating and cooling systems that haven’t worked in years. We could address some of these problems with some additional funds, but our state makes it illegal to make food contracts with companies such as the afore mentioned McDonalds.

The money is the reason most schools turn to outside food contracts. I realize it is not the best way to receive funding, but until legislator step up and provide our school with what they need, school leaders will have to do what they can to fill the void. So, I say yes. The benefits of McDonalds in a school outweighs the drawbacks.

As far as I know there is a huge weight issue across North America, especially for children under 14. In Canada, we are battling it by introducing a mandatory 20 additional minutes of exercise every day. That means, on top of recess and gym, kids are required to spend more time exercising.

If you want to HELP to add to the weight issues, then McDonald's in schools is the way to go.

So no, I think adding it would be a very bad idea.

Definitely not. You hear complaints about obese children now, could you even imagine? I think schools should promote healthy foods that are good all around for the children's well-being. I'd suggest a salad bar that includes all the food groups necessary for daily intake. Fruits, vegetables, protein, fats such as in salad dressing, grains, dairy. If they're given a large variety of what to eat, I think it would be successful.

NO!!!
America is already over weight from McDonalds as it is! It would be very stupid to put ANY fast food restaurant in a school.

No. The pressures on our public educators are such that they were forced into a position where they had to "sell out" to corporate America. The result is we are teaching our kids terrible eating habits. And shame on us for that.

Watch the "Super-Size Me" documentary and you'll never eat McDonalds again.
But we should definitely force feed it to our kids.
