with most cell phones, you're going to get "free" long distance included. there really is no such thing as local calls with cell phones.

You should be able ot find a basic plan that gives you some amount of peak minutes per month (and a much larger or unlimited amount of evening and weekend minutes) for somewhere around $40 per month. You will pay more for more peak minutes, and might find less but it would be with a very limited number of peak/daytime minutes. Going over these minutes will run up your bill so be careful.

The other option if your not a big talked is a prepaid phone, where you pay for a certain number of minutes up front. then add more as you need them with a credit card. You are paying by the minute at a higher rate, but if you don't talk much (or only use the phone for emergencies) it may be cheaper.

You'll just have to look at the different plans that companies offer. I think the lowest I've seen was around $30. Either that or you could buy a pay as you go, but those usually can get pretty expensive if you use it on a regular basis.

You could get a pre-paid cell phone and the cost is based on how much you use the minutes that you buy. Most pre-paid cell phones and minutes are inexpensive.

Woulod all depend on type of phone, make model and cell phone provider, plus if you were on a contract or pay as you go. Go on a few websites and compare prices and taffifs
