McCain is clearly stating the following as a platform for what he thinks is best on hotbed issues of the day:

Troops stay in Iraq, perhaps send more troops, and stabalize the country prior to any U.S. troop evacuation.

Abortion: Believes abortion is a violation of the sanctity of human life.

Does not believe systematic torture is acceptable as a means of extracting information from the enemy.

Global warming. That mankind has contributed to the phenominon and we should, as a nation, take steps to rationally tackle the problem.

We should strive NOT to intervene in other nations policies in using military force.

What say you?

I say this man should go work at Waffle House, because that's what I smell from him. Waffling.

The only things I believe this man stands firm on are the war in Iraq and torture. The war in Iraq, I believe he sees as a problem that we must continue to face until we can clean up as much of our mess as possible. However, I believe his suggestion to send more troops is impractical at best, his suggestions go beyond that of what Bush requests.

As for torture, McCain was tortured in Vietnam. I believe if nothing else, he would be the most reliable man to enforce a "no-torture" policy in the United States for the duration of his term. Any torture that took place would have to be completely out of his knowledge in the least, and if he got wind of it, there would be dishonorable discharges, dismissals, and public shamings all around. I may disagree with McCain on many things, but if there's one issue that I think this man is the best man for the job on, it's his dedication to stopping the use of torture in the United States, and to maintain a certain high ground in morality as best is possible.

He's right about Iraq and abortion. As for torture it depends on what we're talking about. I agree we shouldn't be cutting off fingers and toes but I don't buy the "no olives at the salad bar" idea of torture the left uses. Global warming is a fraud. I agree we should not intervene in other nations policies unless it is apparent that those policies would be a direct threat to the safety of our country.

As for McCain himself. I don't trust him at all. He was mired in the Savings & Loan scandal corruption earlier in his career. He seems to be too over eager to let the Dems tell him what to do. Wouldn't be my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th...+25th choice as a Republican candidate but I'd vote for him over Hillary in the blink of an eye.

McCain is against abortion and says he hopes someday to see it become irrelevant and unnecessary, yet he has voted against funding for birth control initiatives and for funding "abstinence training".

Aside from his abortion stance and his Iraq stance, he could run as a democrat on the other issues.

McCain will be out of the race by Oct. If he thinks people will believe his new found fondness for the religious right genuine he is delusional
