It gets worse. They're not 7th in their bracket. They're 6th. Though I do think 10th in the NIT is a bit harsh.
The perennial question is why does Duke apparently get preferential treatment in a whole bunch of ways? I disagree that it's the name. There are much more prestigious names in the long-term annals of NCAA basketball, though they've been very visible of late.
I do think two things for sure. One is that they probably pay a lot of money to a PR firm that keeps their name constantly in your face. Two is that while some people do love them, so many more hate them all across the country, not just in the ACC, that they're a huge TV draw. Those that hate them will tune in, hoping to see them lose.
That last group is having a great year!

wow. what an ignorant question. Its called RPI Duke has NO losses outside the top 50 and there biggest loss this season was by 12 to a 4th seed maryland. They are a top 10 team in the RPI. The ACC got the most bids and has the toughest conference this year. Of course they deserve the 6th seed, expect to see them upset PItt in round 2 then put up a fight against UCLA. UCLA is likely to win that brackett tho. Duke just needs to get hot and they have the talent. They are never out of a game and teams still fear them even in a mediocre season at best. Next year Duke is a lock for a top seed and a top 3 in the ACC so next time you ask a dumba$$ question do some research first BUD!!!

The ACC is a tough conference. They got such a high seed based solely on tradition, also Dickie V. lobbies for them a lot!! I agree, they should not be a #7 seed, but I do believe they did enough to get in to the tourney.
